This young boy is the son of the skipper of this sailboat. They live on the boat just off the coast of Sint Maarten and once in a while sail to other islands for weeks or months at a time. I would call this family (the father, mother, and two young boys) a gypsy family of sorts, claiming residency at different islands throughout the year. I have a series of these photographs, and will be posting a photo of his father...a man with rotting teeth, raggedy hair, and of course always walking around with the parrot on his shoulder. Yes, this would be your stereotypical pirate. I'm not sure how he makes a living or came to own a $500,000 sailboat, but I thought it better not to ask too many questions. Look for the photo of the father in the near future...as I will be posting it in the next few weeks.
