Sint Maarten (Netherlands Antilles, Caribbean) is known for its dry weather. Sometimes rain wouldn't come for quite a long time, and the ends of the palm leaves would start to dry up as portrayed in this photo. I made sure to open up the aperture and defocus the background as much as possible to obtain this effect. In the background was the local market, and more specifically directly behind the subject shown here was a woman selling brightly colored fabric and clothes (which is stereotypical for Caribbean clothing)...thus the colors you see here and why I chose the title "Caribbean Palm."
